Peterborough United put Crewe to the sword on a luckless afternoon at London Road, recording a 3-0 victory thanks to goals from Harry Beautyman (2) and Lee Angol.

Crewe showed glimpses at times, but the home side showed their clinical edge to notch the victory to keep their good run intact.

Steve Davis made two changes to the side that lost to Bradford on Easter Monday, one enforced, with Brad Inman not traveling due to injury.

Tom Hitchcock took his place in the starting XI, with a tactical swap of skipper Harry Davis returning to the side in place of George Ray the second switch.

Crewe were gifted the first chance of the game on four minutes as Dalla Valle intercepted on the edge of the Posh area, he fed Hitchcock but the striker took too long as saw his attempted cross easily clutched by goalkeeper Ben Alnwick.

Straight down the other end & Michael Bostwick was gifted a free header from a corner, but he put his effort straight at Garratt.

The game followed an even flow, but the hosts took the lead on 14 minutes catching Crewe napping with a short corner. The ball was work to the edge of the box to an Harry Beautyman to curl a beaut into the top corner.

That revved the hosts into gear, and they almost made it two a minute later, Marcus Maddison ghosting in from the right & just dragging his shot narrowly wide of the far post.

Posh went close to doubling their lead on 35 minutes, the dangerous Maddison cutting inside again before unleashing a shot that Garratt did well to hold onto down low.

Moments later & Charlie Kirk came close for Crewe, going on a run before cracking a powerful effort from 20-yards that flew inches away from the top corner.

The hosts extended their advantage five minutes before the break. Michael Smith pumped in a right-wing cross, Williams met it with a header that Garratt saved miraculously, but Beautyman was on hand to tap in the rebound from a yard out to claim his second of the game.

Crewe gained a better foothold of possession early in the second half, but it was Posh who came close to extending their advantage on 58 minutes, Lee Angol sprinting clear on a fast break before laying off

Maddison one-on-one and he thumped his shot off the inside of the near post & the rebound cannoned away to safety.

Nine minutes later and Posh did make it 3-0, Angol latching onto a long ball over the top before steadying himself and thrashing an unstoppable effort past Garratt at the near post.

Kirk came close to pulling a goal back just a minute later, curling a sublime effort just wide from 25-yards, leaving the keeper stranded.

As the game drew to a close, Posh thrice came closh to making it 4-0, Garratt making a fantastic save with his legs on 87 minutes to deny Beautyman a hat-trick & the linesman's flag  ruled out Angol from tapping in his second of the game before Garratt once again made a top save from Angol with the last kick of the game as the hosts finished the game with all three points.
